New Bill to Expand Upcounty Agricultural Park, Focusing on Organic Crops

A measure has been introduced that would implement organic standards and regulations in the expansion area of the Kula Agricultural Park. This will allow local Maui farmers increased access to labor and land resources to support local food production. In order to increase the availability of locally grown, nutritious foods and decrease the use of chemicals in our soil and watershed, the County will use approximately 260 acres as mixed-use with a focus on regenerative farming practices. The area would cover county-owned land that borders Omaopio and Pulehu Roads. Read more about the bill.

Lahaina Workforce Project Continues Construction

Site work for Kaiaulu o Kuku’ia continues. The workforce housing project is scheduled to feature 200 apartment homes mauka of the Lahaina Gateway Shopping Center and consist of 25 two-story, eightplex buildings. See how the build is progressing.

Governor-Elect Promoting Japan Hawaii Travel

Josh Green, Hawaii’s new governor-elect and his wife, traveled to Japan on Friday to meet with government officials and travel industry partners to promote travel and business between Hawaii and Japan. Groups Come Together to Promote Olowalu Reef Restoration

A group of organizations are proposing the implementation of several projects that will help restore the natural environment of the Olowalu reef. The proposed actions will enhance the reef’s resilience to withstand sediment runoff, sea level rise, floods, wildfires, axis deer and other issues. The is composed of community members, private owners, The Nature Conservancy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Aquatic Resources, and Maui Nui Marine Resource Council.
