Ige Announces Expiration of Mask Mandate and Safe Travels Program

Gov. David Ige announced on March 8, 2022, that the sitewide indoor mask mandate would expire on March 25, at 11:59 pm. He cited the decline in hospitalization and case counts as primary reasons in his decision. The CDC recently rated the state’s community COVD-19 level as low, prompting the governor’s response. Twice as Many Maui Arrivals in January 2022 Over January 2021

While the numbers have not yet surpassed overall pre-pandemic levels, visitors to Maui doubled in January 2022 over January 2021. Visitor spending has tripled since the previous year. These numbers have steadily increased, driven by visitors from the mainland and the return of the cruise ship industry. Learn more about this story at:

Live Music Returns to Shops at Wailea

Hale Makua New Location and Expansion Proposal

Hale Makua Health Services moved forward in its process to expand its facility. The newly proposed site will be 76,200 sf. and would provide many different types of therapy and nursing services. Learn more about the expansion at:

Maui Taro Farmers Hawaii Supreme Court Ruling

The Hawaii Supreme Court ruled that the state of Hawaii should not have allowed for the diversion of water away from east Maui streams. The court ruling was on March 3. This ruling provides more of a road map for what is required before issuing new permits. Learn more about the case here:

Passing of Beloved Maui Biologist

Fern Duvall II passed away at 68-years old. Fern was a beloved wildlife biologist who spent many years protecting Maui wildlife.
